...and a giant Style Moderne lady holding an engine will give you laurels or something. (Inspired by Murphie’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ).

Also, I’m given to understand Panhard’s 1926 trucks are big. Big enough to chase down some little Farman(?) passenger planes in between crushing locomotives and liners.

Actually, the liner in the picture is something of a mystery, because while the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! may have already been in planning in ‘26, it definitely didn’t exist yet. Maybe the date listed where I got the ad is wrong?

I don’t know how many of these actually existed, but I probably would have found out about it if there was a survivor, because damn:

Survivor, from Ukraine Wikipedia:

Many of the Art Deco/Style Moderne ads in this post are the work of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , an expat Russian. The guy was extremely prolific:

It’s also worth note that the land speed record competitor George Eyston attempted some record setting with Panhards in ‘30-‘34:

Neat, especially the 3rd one. Two Spanish websites tell me that the giant truck ad is from 1932 so that might shed light to that mystery.

I suspected as much. Being a Russian Art Deco car ad illustrator in France is unusual enough without also being a time traveler.

I chose not to go berserk and throw in *all* the Alexis Kow ads, but it wouldn’t have hurt if I did. Guy was good.

The Normandie ad is definitely not 1926, the Ile de France would have been the big news at the time. Normandie  wasn’t even contracted for until around 1929, and the name wasn’t revealed until ‘31.

Great stuff. That was really the golden age of transportation ads. I wonder if that Belvalette car was actually built. It looks wild. They really loved their boattails. Here’s one of their bodies on a Voisin.

That Belvalette car only shows up in that blurb, but it’s written like they had made at least one. If so, it’s likely been burnt up for 75 years. Seems almost like it would be worth trying to find out just that extra bit more about so a replica could be made...

It does sound like they’re describing an actual car. Maybe there’s a photo of it hiding somewhere. I’d love to know exactly what those airfoil things looked like. The way they used it as a fender is pretty radical.

That windshield is bending my mind. Either they figured out how to fold glass like a ‘78 Caprice coupe, bend it like a 50's car, or there’s a bit of fantasy going on.

The Belvalette? I assume it’s two flat pieces set together in a ludicrously sharp-pointed vee.

Yes. I understand that there is a V in plan view, but if it’s a flat plane of glass, the A pillar would have to be laid back at the same angle as the center windshield stick. This means that either the glass is not flat, the illustrator took some liberties, or there is a ludicrous amount of tumblehome present.

AH!!! I found it! There is a triangle shaped THIRD piece of glass in the middle.
